10 gadgets of interest at CEATEC 2010
CEATEC JAPAN is the largest electronics fair in the world. Our colleagues from PCWorld.com spent a week in Tokyo following the most interesting innovations and gadgets offered by Japanese industry. Thus at the end of the fair we discussed 10 of the most interesting devices found:
Toshiba TV that does not require 3D glasses
About this new innovation in the field we have been talked in the past. It was exhibited in the stand and the reaction was impressive Toshiba TV's attracting a lot of people. At one point queues were made to sit about 3 hours to see the small screen. However, although it is the only manufacturer with a finished product, devices have been produced by other smaller companies that offer similar technology.
Pioneer head-up display
Consumer electronics maker Pioneer has a prototype that offers a look at the future of embedded devices in the car. It uses a laser to display images on a screen is mounted between the driver and the windshield. The images are generated by connecting to a smartphone and provides current data on hopes that technology trafic.Pioneer be on sale in 2012 as an add-on after-market, although they are currently talking between Pioneer and automakers.
Dual-screen mobile phone
Foreseeing future LTE mobile service, Fujitsu has obtained for a prototype mobile device with two screens. LTE mobile data speeds will increase several times the current 3G standard. The phone uses two screens to separate the modes of the locally online. The addition of a secondary display clearly cancels the need for a keypad.
Wireless Charging
If you are annoyed by the need for a cable to a portable gadget then the next load device can be useful. NTT DoCoMo has shown prototypes of batteries and phones based on loading a new wireless technology called Qi (chi in pronunciation). The user replaces transformers and cables just have to put the device on a charging pad.
TDK Flexible OLED
TDK has done consistently attracted visitors to the CEATEC exhibiting its new flexible OLED displays. At only 0.3 mm thick they can bend while displaying images or information. Benefits are not just in terms of bending factor but because they are made of plastic, are more resistant than the current screens made of glass and much harder to crack.
NTT DoCoMo - augmented reality demo
Imagine that you have a small screen in the corner of the eye that displays information relevant to their current location. Company NTT DoCoMo will in future make a prototype based on the idea of AR Walker, attaching the device to a pair of glasses. It will include a gyroscopic sensor that detects the direction in which the user is moving. If it looks right or left, it can identify which stores or restaurants are in that direction. If the user looks up the device can display information about the weather and if it looks before navigation mode is activated.
Samsung WiMax Demo 2
CEATEC Vizitorii had a chance to see with their eyes a new version of WiMax that is streaming data at speeds of over 300Mbps. Samsung has demonstrated a new technology by sending several HD video files in a test network. No operator has so far announced plans to launch WiMax networks in February, although the demonstration was a view in future mobile wireless data networks.
TransferJet
A group of large companies exposed to the most recent achievements TransferJet system, a data transfer system developed by Sony. Toshiba has exhibited an SD adapter type device based on what will be the future TransferJet storage cards for digital cameras. Meanwhile, Sony has set out a new chip-based technology provides a high speed connection to PC to reach speeds of about 375Mbps.
Mitsubishi OLED display module
Last year, I had the same fair chance to see protipul OLED display module from Mitsubishi. This year we could admire its commercial version. OLED screen is made of modules that can be interconnected to create a screen of any size. The display is intended for public displays advertising applications, the display in stadiums or airports etc.

Best American Phone Carrier/Plan for text messaging?
Moving to America from Japan... as anyone who has spent anytime in Japan knows, its a text message loving country... I use e-mail from my mobile phone for almost all communication, rarely making any actual calls. I can send unlimited emails to any address (web or phone) in the world. I pay about $50 a month (NTT DOCOMO is my provider). Wondering what comparable plans I can expect to find in the states (if any)...seems like the US is a phone call loving society...
In the United States, We have what's called Verizon. They actually have plans dedicated to just text messaging. If you decide to place a phone call...it will bill you at a per minute rate and these fees will show on your phone bill. The plan is $34.99 and includes Unlimited Text Messaging, Unlimited Mobile Web, Unlimited Data usage, and includes a voice per minute rate of 40 cents per minute. This depends if you will be placing several calls. With this plan, since internet and data are free, you can place unlimited emails to anywhere. If you want a voice plan, they start at $39.99 for 450 minutes and include Unlimited Nights/Weekends/Mobile 2 Mobile. To add unlimited text messaging it would be $20.00 extra. Then to get unlimited emails, you would need to have an email certified phone (with V CAST Video/music services) and add the $15.00 plan on. It will come to about $74.99 + tax. If any of these rates seem a bit high, you may be able to find a regional carrier to provide cheaper rates...but cheaper rates come with bad service.
What is Verizon Wireless?
Verizon Wireless is the wonderful company based in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, USA. They are well known for having the best coverage with the fewest dropped calls of any other wireless network. They are also known for amazing customer service. Also, they are a CDMA carrier. CDMA means they run without SIM Cards, which makes them also more reliable. Their main competitors include Sprint PCS, AT&T Mobility, and T-Mobile. Verizon is not known for having the best international coverage (international roaming) but this is improving. Verizon Wireless offers many amazing phones such as the Motorola RAZR, Samsung Glyde, Voyager, and more. View them below:

Their parent company which owns 45% of them is Vodafone. They provide rental phones for customers traveling internationally. If traveling to the US, Verizon is always the best choice.
Their name has a meaning, unlike most other wireless carriers. The name "Verizon," a portmanteau, is derived by combining the word "veritas," a Latin term that means "truth," and the word "horizon." Together, they are supposed to conjure images of reliability, certainty, leadership, and limitless possibilities.
Verizon Wireless now owns Alltel, the Fifth largest wireless carrier in the United States. After this merger, Verizon Wireless will cover 99.9% of the US and have over 80 million customers. The merger is expected to be complete by January 2009.
